Websites for restaurants

We build restaurant websites: online menu, reservations and events, from €600

Guests check the menu, the prices and the reviews on a phone before they walk in. Your site gives them a menu that is always current, the allergens for each dish and a reservation in a few taps.

What a restaurant's website needs

If you want a website for your restaurant, it should do four things: show a menu you can update in minutes, give allergen information for every dish, take reservations, and make it easy to ask about private events. We build restaurant sites from €600 with a content admin, and add slot-based reservations from €2,500 or your own online orders from €4,000. Danube Labs is a solo studio in Bucharest.

A menu you can change in two minutes

Restaurant menus change all the time: the lunch menu of the day, a seasonal dish, a price, an item that ran out at 19:00. A PDF menu is slow to open on a phone and hard to edit, so we build the menu as text on the page, in sections, with one entry per dish: name, description, price, photo, allergens and tags such as vegetarian. You edit it in the admin and the change is live within minutes. Text can be indexed by Google, while a photo of a printed menu cannot be read. If tourists or foreign residents eat with you, add an English version.

Allergen information for each dish

Under Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, allergen information is mandatory for non-prepacked food, which includes dishes served in a restaurant (Article 44), and each Member State decides how it is provided. In Romania, the food safety authority (ANSVSA) states that consumers must be informed about allergens in non-prepacked food, in writing where possible, with some flexibility when the guest speaks directly to the person who prepared the dish. The 14 allergens are listed in Annex II: cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soya, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphites, lupin and molluscs.

Order 201/2022 of the consumer protection authority (ANPC) goes further for catering units: it asks for ingredients, additives and a nutritional declaration for each dish, available at the point of sale or, for distance orders, before the order is completed. ANPC postponed the start to 15 March 2023 and the text may have changed since, so read the current version on the legislative portal or ask ANPC. In the admin, each dish gets ticks for the 14 allergens and fields for ingredients and nutrition values. Your kitchen or a nutritionist supplies the values.

Reservations without phone tag

There are two levels. A request form (date, time, number of guests, phone) lands in your inbox and you confirm by phone, which fits a small place with few tables. Slot-based booking sets a capacity per time slot, closes a slot when it is full, and sends a confirmation email with a cancel link and a reminder the day before. Keep the form short: a free-text note where guests write "I am allergic to nuts" can hold health data, so ask only when needed and say why (see the GDPR).

Your own orders or delivery platforms

Delivery platforms bring visitors, typically for a commission (check their current contracts), and they hold the customer relationship. Your own ordering page keeps the margin and the contact details, but then you handle delivery or pickup yourself. A practical middle path: keep the platforms for reach, add pickup and your own delivery to the site, and put the site's order link on your Google Business Profile. Own ordering with card payments is e-commerce work, from €4,000.

Events, photos and Google Maps

Weddings, christenings and company dinners are high-value bookings, so give them a page with set menus, capacity, photos of the room and an enquiry form that asks for the date, the number of guests and a budget. On the map side, a free Google Business Profile with hours (including holiday hours), photos and links to your menu and reservations is what diners see first. Google explains how to add or claim it.

What we build

The parts of a restaurant site that fill tables

Built around what guests check on a phone before they decide.

  • A menu you update yourself

Dishes as text, in sections, with price, photo and tags. Daily menu, seasonal items and sold-out switches from the admin.

  • Allergens and nutrition per dish

Ticks for the 14 EU allergens and fields for ingredients and nutrition, shown next to each dish and in the ordering flow.

  • Reservations with capacity

A request form or slot-based booking with a limit per time slot, a confirmation email, a cancel link and a reminder.

  • Events and private dining

A page with set menus, capacity and room photos, and an enquiry form for date, guests and budget.

  • Your own orders for pickup or delivery

Ordering on your own site next to the delivery platforms, with the menu available by time of day and card payment.

  • Photos, Maps and local search

Compressed photos of real dishes, a Google Business Profile with hours and links, and menu pages search engines can read.

How it works

How a restaurant site gets built

  1. 1

A call about the menu and the room

We go through your menu structure, how often it changes, your tables and time slots, your events and whether you take your own orders.

  2. 2

    Menu and allergen data

We set up the dish structure and enter the first version with you. Your kitchen confirms the allergens, ingredients and values for every dish.

  3. 3

    Build and test on phones

We test the menu, a reservation for a full slot and a large group, and an event enquiry, on small screens and a slow connection.

  4. 4

    Launch and staff handover

We publish, link the site from your Google Business Profile and show whoever updates the menu how the admin works.

Related work

There is no restaurant client in our portfolio, and we will not invent one. The closest real work is the booking logic. This website takes bookings on Google Calendar, shows each visitor their own time zone, and sends a confirmation, a 24-hour reminder and a signed cancel link. The RecMed clinic is a concept we built to show a booking flow with a confirmation, in light and dark themes, for a medical practice. For a restaurant we would adapt the same pieces to tables and time slots, and add the menu and allergen structure described above. The full list is in the portfolio.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How much does a restaurant website cost?

A presentation site with an editable menu, allergen fields, photos, a reservation request form and technical SEO costs €600–1,500. Slot-based reservations against real capacity start at €2,500. Your own online orders with card payment start at €4,000. The final price is agreed in writing for your case. Domain, hosting and payment fees are extra.

Can I update the menu myself every day?

Yes. The admin lets you edit a dish, change a price, add today's lunch menu and mark an item as sold out. A change is published within a few minutes. You need no developer, and we show whoever updates the menu how it works at launch.

Do I have to show allergens on the website?

EU Regulation 1169/2011 requires allergen information for non-prepacked food, and ANSVSA says guests must be informed, in writing where possible. ANPC Order 201/2022 also covers information for orders made at a distance, before they are completed. We add allergen fields per dish. Check the current texts, and your kitchen stays responsible for the data.

How do online reservations work?

The simple version is a request form that reaches your inbox, and you confirm by phone. The slot-based version sets a capacity for each time slot, closes full slots, and sends the guest a confirmation, a cancel link and a reminder. Large groups can be routed to a request. We choose the level with you during the first call.

Should I take my own orders or stay on delivery platforms?

Platforms bring reach, usually for a commission, and keep the customer relationship. Your own ordering keeps margin and contact details, and you handle delivery or pickup. Many restaurants use both: platforms for reach, the site for pickup and regulars. Own ordering with payments starts at €4,000, so it pays off when order volume is steady.

Can the site be in Romanian and English, and who takes the photos?

Yes to both languages: every tier from €600 is bilingual, with hreflang tags so Google shows the right one. Photos come from you, because they must show your real dishes and room. A sharp phone photo in daylight is enough to start, and we compress images for fast loading. We do not offer photography.

What happens to guests' data from reservations?

You are the controller under the GDPR. Collect only what you need (name, phone, party size, date), state why and for how long you keep it, and avoid free-text allergy notes unless they are needed, since those can be health data. We configure the forms that way, and a privacy policy page is part of the build.
